Call for Papers is now CLOSED

The sessions of this conference present an opportunity for researchers to present their studies related to water sustainability on tropical islands. These sessions aim to encourage information sharing and discourse among participants regarding specific themes that pertain to the management of water resources in insular environments.

Session Themes

This conference would like to encourage the submission of abstracts that deal with any of the following topics:
    Groundwater:
  • Groundwater availability for water supply and irrigation
  • Groundwater quality affected by natural and anthropogenic chemicals
  • Groundwater recharge
  • Submarine GW discharge

  • Surface Water:
  • Orography and precipitation variation
  • Dambreaks
  • Mass (erosion) loss due to heavy rainfall
  • Flooding due to heavy rains and storm surges
  • Stream depletion due to ground water pumpage
  • Particle transport to ocean

  • Wastewater:
  • Treatment of wastewater on islands
  • Ocean disposal versus reuse
  • Salinity intrusion into sewer systems
  • Sewage spills

  • Water-Energy Nexus:
  • Water needed for energy production on islands
  • Disposal of water/wastewater from energy production

  • Natural and Manmade:
  • Climate variability and storm surge issues for atolls
  • Beach and recreational water quality

Procedure

Prospective authors should submit an abstract (250 - 300 words) in English. Include your affiliation, telephone and fax numbers, mail and email addresses of the first or corresponding author. Abstracts should be submitted by September 1, 2011 to Dr. Aly El-Kadi at elkadi@hawaii.edu. Papers will be reviewed by the conference committee and notice of accepted abstracts will be sent by email and/or fax by September 18, 2011. In addition, authors of selected abstracts will be invited to submit full papers for inclusion in a conference proceedings to be published at a later date. Full papers of accepted abstracts (in English) must be submitted on or before October 1, 2011 in Microsoft Office Word Format (2007 or earlier).
